Layered Identity
Layered Identity is inspired by the queer, brown, and feminine voices of our future. It is comprised of oil paintings on canvas, freestanding sculptures, and community empowerment workshops.
These artworks aspire to evolve the visual narrative of who "We the People" is. The portraits backdropped by color fields celebrate my community's prideful queer identity. They depict the emerging faces of our future amidst the process of their formation resilient to history's dark past. Painted using the brown and mestizo skin tones of my community's layered identity, they foreshadow our inner strength to evolve.
They are the non-traditional, homo-sexual, non-binary, and the brown of our future that doesn't seek to erase an oppressive past instead evolve past it in a way that speaks of inclusivity and equity.
